Connect to Wi-Fi
Connect to Wi-Fi
sugardash works with standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Most home routers support this, but some routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same network name. If you have trouble connecting, make sure your network allows 2.4 GHz devices.
To connect:
- Select your Wi-Fi network
- Enter your password
- Tap Connect
If the first attempt does not work, try again. sugardash can be a little picky during setup because it is trying to make sure the connection is stable and reliable.
Some networks, such as those at schools, workplaces, hotels, or hospitals, require opening a web page before internet access is allowed. These are sometimes called captive portal networks. sugardash cannot complete that type of browser-based login on its own.
In cases like this, the usual solution is to ask IT to whitelist the device. The Wi-Fi menu shows the device MAC address at the bottom of the screen, and that is the information IT will usually need.
Adding your first user
Adding your first user
After WiFi is connected, sugardash will take you to the screen called Users.
Tap Add New User to create your first profile.
You will then be asked to enter a user name. This is only a display name for the screen, such as Mom, Alex, or Riley. It is not your CGM username or login.
After creating the user, sugardash will open that user’s settings screen. You will see several options here that can be adjusted later.
For now, the important step is to tap CGM.
Connecting Dexcom
Connecting Dexcom
To connect Dexcom, enter your Dexcom username and password. These should be the same credentials used in the Dexcom app on the phone paired directly with the CGM.
Most people can stop here. If you already know your Dexcom login, just enter it into sugardash.
If you are unsure of your login, open the Dexcom app on the phone paired to the CGM. Go to Profile > Account and scroll to the Login section. The username shown there is the one sugardash needs.
This is especially important for parents setting up sugardash for a child. Dexcom often creates both a parent account and a child account. The parent account may be linked to the child, which is why a parent can sometimes log in to Dexcom Clarity, choose the child profile, and still see the child’s glucose data. That often makes it seem like the parent login is the correct one. For sugardash, that is not enough. sugardash must log in directly to the account that actually receives the CGM data. If a parent uses their own parent login instead of the child’s actual Dexcom login, sugardash will usually show NO DATA, displayed as three dashes on the main screen.
Dexcom Share also requires at least one follower. If no follower is set up, sugardash will not show an error. Instead, you will simply see NO DATA. To fix this, open the Dexcom app and go to Connections > Share > Invite Follower. You can invite yourself.
If your Dexcom username is a phone number, enter it with the plus sign and country code, with no spaces or dashes. Example for the United States: +15551234567.
Connecting Libre
Connecting Libre
To connect Libre you'll use a LibreLinkUp account.
If you already have a LibreLinkUp account and can see glucose data there, just sign in to sugardash with that same LibreLinkUp username and password.
If you do not already have a LibreLinkUp account, you can create one and then invite yourself to be a follower. To do this, open the FreeStyle Libre app, go to the menu, tap Share or Connected Apps, select LibreLinkUp, then tap Add Connection. Enter your own name and email address, then complete the setup by downloading the LibreLinkUp app, creating an account, and accepting the invitation. Once you can see glucose data in LibreLinkUp, sugardash will work.
Libre sensors can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time. Many users connect their Libre directly to a pump instead of a phone. If that is your setup, sugardash will not work, because sugardash reads from Abbott’s Libre services and those services need the data to be coming from the phone.
Connecting Nightscout
Connecting Nightscout
To connect Nightscout, enter your Nightscout URL and Nightscout Secret API Token.
Nightscout opens up support for many more CGM types. Setup depends on your CGM and Nightscout configuration, but if you can already see your glucose data in Nightscout, you can use those same credentials in sugardash.
Setup complete!
Setup complete!
Once a user is connected, sugardash will display glucose readings automatically.
You can now begin using your device or adjust settings to personalize your sugardash.
